Let’s say you moved into your new place but the cost of moving took about a chunk out of your moving expenses. You must be weary about what it will cost to furnish your place. No worries! I’ll share my secrets about how I furnished my one-bedroom apartment for almost little to nothing.

Living on your own can be extremely costly if you’re not prepared. This is why furnishing your home on a budget can save you in the long run.

    Make Marketplace Your Bestfriend

Not only does Facebook Marketplace have the most affordable used furniture, but they also have free things as well. A lot of people do move-out sales and are just trying to get everything out, so they’ll give it away for free, first come first serve. I got my beautiful washer and dryer set for $500 dollars and it’s good as new. They also delivered it to my door for an extra $50. Of course, you must check any and everything you buy from FB Marketplace fully and thoroughly before you take it home, but this is THE perfect place to furnish your home on a tight budget. Don’t sleep on Facebook Marketplace, they have some very nice things.

    Find A Staging Company

Find an interior designer or a real estate agent who knows an interior designer in your area. One of their duties includes staging houses for showings and they more than likely have loads of furniture with no intention of using any of it. I came in contact with an interior designer in my area. She had a storage unit full of brand-new furniture, so she gave me a beautiful, unused couch (loveseat) for free as long as I had a way to pick it up, and best believe I found a way! Reach out to an interior designer, they usually are willing to let things go, but if not offer a small price you might be willing to pay. Something is better than nothing.

Stay Away from Expensive Furniture Stores

Make sure to go to thrift stores and discounted stores. Places like Ikea, Wayfair, or Ashley Furniture Homestore will rip your pockets apart–even with a coupon code. Go to a local thrift store or a store like Big Lots. Just because the store is affordable does not mean it will have rinky-dink items. Don’t hesitate to take a look.

    Ask A Family Member/Friend

Don’t mark this off of the list of furnishing your home on a budget. Someone you know might have furniture that they no longer want or may be willing to get rid of. It doesn’t hurt to ask, plus they’ll more likely to give it to you or for a small exchange.

  • How COVID-19 Has Affected Education System

How COVID-19 Has Affected Education System

Image by David Mark from Pixabay

When the COVID-19 pandemic came about in 2020, it hit everyone like a ton of bricks, including myself. I was actually in my last semester of undergrad, 2 months away from graduation to be exact. But that’s another story. I want to talk about how covid had affected education, how it has changed since then, and what it could be for the future.

    More Virtual Options

Online programs were available before, but since the pandemic, virtual school and online programs have become more widespread across the country. Over the years, graduate and professional schools have extended the fully or partially online program options. Which could possibly be the future of education. This makes it easily accessible and more compatible for students who may be struggling, working, or that have family obligations.

    how covid has affected education
Image by Gerd Altmann from Pixabay

This has also opened the door for more virtual job opportunities.

According to Pew Research Center, of roughly six-in-ten U.S. workers who say their jobs can mainly be done from home, 59% are working from home all or most of the time.

Is Education Needed To Become Successful?

Although the four-year degree has been a default for many, since 2020, a lot of people have decided that it’s not the right path for them.

Trading school, skill certificates, and entrepreneurial roles have all become a more popular thing. With the internet being so accessible, it’s easier than ever to start a business and even more resources for it to take off.

At the end of the day, everyone has their own definition of success. So it all depends on what you define as success. What works for you may not work for others.

The Economy Has Made College More Expensive

College was already a questionable move for those who do not have the proper resources to go to college straight out of high school. Since 2020 and inflation, tons of people aren’t able to afford education, let alone gas or groceries.

The cost of living is at an all-time high, gas prices are fluctuating, and groceries are not as affordable these days, which makes college the last thing on the agenda for most people.

Unless you have the option to go to school for free or are able to pay out of pocket, it just does not seem doable.

People are taking apps like Tik Tok and Instagram to fill their pockets and become what they use to call an “overnight sensation” and what we now call “viral”. And once you become viral, opportunities start knocking at your door. School can become the last thing on your mind when you feel an ounce of success without it.

Is it worth the long-term debt?

  • Are Dating Apps Ruining Modern Dating Culture?

Are Dating Apps Ruining Modern Dating Culture?

Image by mohamed Hassan from Pixabay

Apps like Tinder, Hinge, and Bumble are taking over the dating arena, which makes dating easily obtainable these days. Back then, we were forced to actually meet people first but now, we have more expansive options. Although online dating has been around for more than a decade with websites like Facebook, dating apps have just recently become the new thing.

There’s been an ongoing debate on whether these apps are just for hookups or if people actually meet their person. According to Earthweb.com, there are 413 million people using dating apps in 2022 worldwide.

people using dating apps by group

Here are some negative effects of dating apps…

    1. Can Create A Cycle of Constant Dissatisfaction

When you have so many options to choose from and none of them meet your expectations, it’s easy to just pick another partner with one swipe away. But this can lead to disappointment time after time, which might cause you to end up losing hope.

    2. Can Alter Your Views On Dating As A Whole

After a while, you may start to give up hope that you’ll never find someone after so many failed attempts, conversations, and potential dates. You could begin to think, “Is there something wrong with me”? or is has the dating game gone downhill?

    3. Hookup Culture Has Ruined Dating Apps

There are a lot of people on these apps that are looking for some temporary satisfaction while others are looking for something more, long-term. While there are apps specifically for hookups, these people tend to take over the apps that were made for something totally different. Which can be frustrating for some.

    4. You’re Choosing Someone Based Solely On Looks

Don’t get me wrong, looks do matter but they shouldn’t be the reason you ultimately want to date a person. With dating apps, you have to decide if you are interested in a person based on their picture. Would it be a bad idea to read a bio before you see a picture? Just to get a glimpse of the personality first?

    5. People Will Match, But Won’t Make The First Move

A friend of mine told me that this was something that really bothered them. They would match with a few people, but most wouldn’t actually make the first move which can be irritating because it feels like they are just on the app solely for an ego boost.

Image by Justin Martin from Pixabay

    Here are some positive effects…

    7. They Help People Connect

Although we have other social media platforms such as FB, Twitter, and Instagram that can be used to connect with other people. Dating apps are designed for a specific goal, weeding out unnecessary conversations.

    8. They Can Either Lower or Boost Your Self-Esteem

Some people get non-stop matches when they are on the app while others may rarely get any matches at all. This can either boost your ego or destroy it, choose wisely.

    9. You Might Actually Meet The Love Of Your Life

According to Cloudware.net, about 54% of the people that use dating apps actually end up with someone. Only 13% of those people actually end up engaged or married.

    10. You’re Able To Get To Know Someone Before The Meetup

You get the option to text a little/have phone conversations, and creep their social profiles before actually deciding if you would actually want to spend your time with this person. Because time is so precious, we don’t want to waste it on those we don’t even see ourselves having a future with.

    11. It Expands Dating Options Outside Your Specific Location

Image by Mohamed Hassan from Pixabay

If you start to feel like you’re having a hard time meeting someone nice in your city or state, you have the option to get to know other people from anywhere and everywhere, right at your fingertips.

    12. They’re Easy And Convenient

For those who don’t have the free time to go out and meet people organically, dating apps are more convenient and help out a lot to get to know multiple people all at once. Then, when you’ve met someone you can figure out a time to meet around your busy schedule.

  • Signs of a Mature Person

    Signs of a Mature Person

Image by Gerd Altmann from Pixabay

Today we are going to discuss the top signs of a mature person. As we all know and if you don’t, maturity comes with experience and not age. Everyone’s walk of life is different, but how you deal with it is what builds character. According to Psychology Today, thinking systems, and working on one’s self where one has that control rather than finger-pointing and insisting others change, which is typically hopeless and out of one’s ability to change—that’s the work to be done. Hence, an emotional maturity measure. Here are a few things that make an individual mature:

    Advertisements

    They Don’t Take Anything Personal

Let me use a scenario for this one, for example. When someone has treated you a certain way or may act a certain way towards you and you have no idea why nine times out of ten it can be because of some internal issues they have going on within themselves. It is a reflection of what they may be going through or how they feel about themselves; it’s called projection. Once you learn this, you’ll never take anything personally. Remember, not everything is about you.

A Mature Person Can Spend Time Alone

My best time to flourish is when I am alone. I am very comfortable in my solitude. The best time to get to know yourself is when you’re alone. A person who is always with someone or who always needs friends or people around them is most likely running away from something.

    Advertisements

They Listen More Than They Speak

    signs of a mature person

A good listener takes the time out to listen to things before they speak about them. Everyone respects a listener who knows the full story versus a speaker who just wants to hear themselves talk. They have two ears and one mouth and use them in that order.

    Advertisements

    Knows How to Set Boundaries

When they can decide what they will and won’t accept into their life because everyone certainly has control of that. Setting healthy boundaries helps you trust, accept, respect, and listen to yourself more. Mature people see boundaries as not defensive, but more of a standard in your life.

    Advertisements

    They Take Responsibility

Taking accountability is considered very rare and something that not everyone is capable of doing. It is a big step to take for someone who doesn’t see any wrong in their own doing. They don’t blame anyone else for their failures and try to change their situation rather than complain. Someone taking the blame for something is one of the top signs of a mature person.

    Advertisements

    Can Have a Mature Conversation

People can talk about anything, but not everyone can stimulate your mind. Being able to dig deep with someone, open your mind to different views, and not get offended or argumentative. When you can talk about topics that exceed the normal individual’s mind, is a sign of a mature person.

    Advertisements

    They Are Emotionally Independent

A mature person isn’t depending on anyone else and is capable of fully taking care of themselves. They can also make their own decisions without the input of anyone else, which is a sign of a mature person. Now, it is perfectly fine to ask for help when you need it, but to figure it out on your own is when you’ve reached that stage.

    Advertisements

    Treat Everyone Right

No matter the size, color, weight, occupation, etc they treat everyone nicely and with respect. They don’t talk down to anyone or treat anyone wrong because they are already confident in themselves and don’t need a self-esteem boost.

    Advertisements

    Know When To Let Go

Image by S. Hermann & F. Richter from Pixabay

They don’t cling to people and know when to let someone go without looking back. They don’t hold emotional attachments to people right away and carry discernment with them when dealing with people. Signs of a mature person show when they have boundaries and have a sense of self-worth.

  • Year 1: What I’ve Learned Blogging So Far

Year 1: What I’ve Learned Blogging So Far

She Informs has officially hit the one-year mark and I thought, what better way to celebrate than to share the low roads, high roads, and the critical components of what I’ve learned blogging so far.

I will do this every year to reflect on my blogging journey and document my growth. Feel free to tag along!

Here what’s I’ve taken from this experience so far:

    Advertisements

    1. Consistency Is Key

Don’t underestimate the significance of blogging consistently. If I knew in the beginning how much of a difference in traffic it makes, I would have done it starting off. What I’ve realized is that with a new blog, one of the main focuses is building an audience and in order to do that, you must blog at a consistent pace. The more you blog, the more your audience will grow.

    2. Don’t Focus So Hard On Views

When I first began blogging, I made it a bad habit to check my views multiple times a day. I was putting in so much work that I expected the views to magically appear out of thin air (especially when I applied SEO to my posts), but I was missing so many other pieces to the puzzle. That’s one of the things I love the most about blogging, you learn something new every day. I now check my views twice, maybe three times per week versus every day which makes blogging more free-flowing for me. Doing this will only cause you stress and make you feel demotivated.

    Advertisements

    3. Work On Building A Blogging Audience First

    what I've learned blogging
    Advertisements

I talked about this above, but I want to get more in-depth here. Building a following on social media, a mailing list, and a loyal blog fanbase. Your subscribers should be receiving emails from you and can’t wait to open them. They won’t hesitate to try the products you recommend. You can depend on these people and they rely on you. Building an audience guarantees you loyal views and loyal customers that associate with your brand.

    4. Invest Money Into Your Blog

    what I've learned blogging
Image by Steve Buissinne from Pixabay

You have to spend money to make money. Many people believe it costs little to nothing to start blogging, which is true. But if you want your blog to truly blossom, then you must invest in the things that it needs to do so. For example, one of my biggest mistakes starting out was not having hosting. I bought hosting 8 months in and had to restructure my entire website. It was a process, but I saw a dramatic change in things with having hosting versus not having hosting. This is just one investment. Investing in blogging courses, your site, blogging services many other things will get you where you want to be quicker than just going the free route. Out of everything I’ve learned while blogging so far, this was my biggest lesson.

    Advertisements

    5. Treat It Like Your Job

If you have a 9-5, your blog should be your 5-9. The same energy you give your day job, give that plus more to your blog. This may get draining at some point and you may feel you need a break, which is perfectly fine. I take breaks here and there to give myself a breather, but never fall off and forget why I’m doing it in the first place. The more work and time you put into your craft, the quicker the results.

    6. ENGAGE

Comment on other people’s blog posts, share their blog posts, etc. Join blogging groups on FB, share experiences, and make blogging friends. This helps a lot when you feel like you’re alone and it starts to feel like a waste of time. There are people going through the same process, why not go through it together? If you love blogging, then it shouldn’t be hard to follow another person’s blog.

    Advertisements

    7. You’re Not Going To Make A Living Blogging Right Away

    what I've learned blogging

When I first started blogging, I thought I would be able to quit my job a few months in. Boy was I wrong. It’s been a year, and I’m still not yet at that point. Although there are various ways to make money blogging, it does not happen overnight. Do not believe the blogging gurus when they tell you you can quit your job in 3 months of blogging. It takes time…time to build your blog from the ground up. Time to build a following, time to make blog posts, etc. Most people on average don’t make a living until after their first year.

    8. Terms & Conditions

    what I've learned blogging
Image by Sergei Tokmakov Terms.Law from Pixabay

There are a lot of things behind the scenes that you can’t do blogging. Like using other people’s pictures, making sure you’re website has a privacy policy, and even putting disclaimers in your blog posts. I can go on and on, but it’s essential to read and do your research on the legal side of blogging so that you don’t get into any legal trouble. What I’ve learned blogging is that there’s so much to learn. I didn’t know this until I was about 6 months in thankfully, nothing happened.

    Advertisements

    9. Opens Doors For Endless Possibilities

    what i've learned blogging
Image by Arek Socha from Pixabay

There are so many skills that come along with blogging. Digital marketing, graphic design, coding, writing, editing, SEO, and many more. These skills alone can open up any opportunities for any other endeavors you liked to pursue. Whether a new job or a freelance gig, the world is yours.

  • Energy-Saving Tips for Summer: Our Top 6 Hacks

Energy-Saving Tips for Summer: Our Top 6 Hacks

With the summer heat at a record high, I thought this would be the perfect time to share my most efficient energy-saving tips for summer to cool down the house and ways to maintain it during these excruciating summer months.

Image by Tumisu, please consider ☕ Thank you! 🤗 from Pixabay

If you live in the south like me, the heat can sometimes feel like the closest thing to hell. Which can also cause the energy bill to skyrocket. Here are my top five clever household hacks to keep that energy bill at its lowest, while not having to crank up the AC.

    1. Use Ceiling Fans

Image by Stefan Schweihofer from Pixabay

Circulating fresh air around the home using a ceiling fan can reduce the pressure from your air conditioning system. Specifically, during the summer months, it is best for your fan to spin quickly in the counterclockwise direction. Doing this pushes air down and creates a cool breeze.

It also helps keep a room at temperature and reduces the need for an air conditioner consistently and inconsistently running.

    2. Insulate/Seal/Block Windows and Doors

Your home may have poor insulation, which could be the #1 reason why it gets super hot/cold inside during the different seasons. In my opinion, this is one of the easiest and most efficient ways to keep the cool air in your house. While there are a vast majority of ways, here are five easy ways to insulate and protect the air in your home to decrease that electric bill. This is the most effective energy-saving tip for summer. I’ve noticed a drastic change in keeping the cool air in my home after sealing windows and doors.

    3. Energy-saving Curtains/Blinds

Make sure to close blinds or buy black-out curtains. This blocks out access to sunlight that will come through. The darker the color, the better. The key is to make sure they’re installed to hang as close to the glass as possible. Heat will enter through the glass but curtains close to the glass reduce the chance of any heat getting through.

    4. Raise the Temperature on Your Thermostat

Image by Rudy and Peter Skitterians from Pixabay

Setting the temperature low on your thermostat can save you hundreds of dollars on your energy bill every year. Every summer, the U.S. Department of Energy suggests that when at home, 78 degrees fahrenheit is the ideal temperature for staying cool and keeping your energy bill at its lowest.

    5. Switch Off Appliances

Image by Mote Oo Education from Pixabay

You’d be surprised at the amount of waste heat the appliances around your house generate. Turning off and unplugging unused appliances can drop numbers in your energy bill every month. Also, avoid using unnecessary items, for instance, hand-wash your dishes vs using your dishwasher. Or hanging your clothes to dry vs using a dryer. Use these appliances as the sun goes down, and it will not only keep the house cool but cut back on your costs as well.

    6. Clean Your AC Filters Regularly

If you live in an apartment, like myself, then this is typically something your local maintenance man would normally take care of. Which is something they should be doing regularly. In a house, if your AC isn’t working correctly, then it might be time to change the air filter. If your air filter is clogged or filthy, it makes your AC work harder and impacts indoor air quality. It can lead to allergies, inefficient warming, and raise your electric bill. It’s recommended to clean your filter every two weeks and replace it every four months.

Always remember to keep it simple. The smaller your place is the lower the costs. Turn things off when you’re not using them. Use LED lights and if you absolutely have to use appliances, use energy-saving ones. Following these steps will put more money in your pockets. Have any suggestions not listed? Comment them below!

  • 5 Incredible Benefits Of Having A Side Hustle In 2024

5 Incredible Benefits Of Having A Side Hustle In 2024

While I am a huge advocate for making the most out of life and having a life outside of your hustle. It’s important not to work so hard that you forget how to truly live. Now, let’s get into it. Having a side hustle can come with a multitude of incredible benefits that go beyond just making some extra cash. Whether you’re a full-time employee, a freelancer, or a stay-at-home parent, a side hustle can enhance your finances, provide a creative outlet, and even offer opportunities for personal growth.

Extra sources of income provide security

One of the most significant benefits of having a side hustle is the added financial security it provides. By diversifying your income, you’re less reliant on a single paycheck and better equipped to weather any unexpected financial storms. Additionally, a side hustle gives you the freedom to explore your passions and interests outside of your main career, allowing you to find fulfillment beyond the 9-to-5 grind.

If it didn’t hit you before, it hit during the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic taught us that it isn’t safe to just rely on your one day-to-day job. You can be let go at any time and you must be prepared for it—well, they expect you to be prepared.

Either way, you need to be able to take care of yourself and whoever else, when the time comes. A side hustle can easily take care of that. Unexpected expenses like a hospital bill or a car accident usually happen when you least expect them. So it’s good to be able to cover the finances for these kinds of things.

Good to have a creative outlet

When people can pay you for something you’re very skillful at, you’ve established a happy medium. Being able to optimize your creative side is the true key to freedom. Here are some benefits of utilizing your creative outlet:

    • Creativity feeds the soul and uplifts your mood
    • Gives you inspiration
    • Seeing your work complete gives you a sense of purpose

You can provide a service other people can’t, which makes you feel needed. If you adopt the right marketing skills, you can also teach people or sell products, ultimately creating another source of income.

It will eventually replace your 9-5

If you have dreams to finally one day retire from the dreadful, dead-end job that you hate going to every day, a side hustle would be the way to do it. If you choose the right side hustle, you can give up the 9-5 completely. A 9-5 is linear income, meaning you get paid the same amount of money to do the same amount of work. Once you stop working, you stop making money.

Residual income (your side hustle) is key because you do work this week, and you still get paid for weeks, months, and even years to come. All it takes is consistency, discipline, and drive.

    Flexibility and work-life balance

If you’re ready to embark on a side hustle but aren’t sure where to start, here are some ideas for different skills:

    1. Writing and editing: Offer freelance writing or editing services for blogs, websites, or publications.

    2. Graphic design: Create custom logos, social media graphics, or website designs for small businesses.

    3. Photography: Offer professional photography services for events, portraits, or product shoots.

    4. Handmade crafts: Create and sell handmade jewelry, pottery, or other crafts on online marketplaces.

    5. Tutoring: Teach subjects you excel in, whether it’s academic subjects or specialized skills like music or languages.

    6. Consulting: Provide consulting services in your area of expertise, such as marketing, finance, or HR.

Remember to choose a side hustle that aligns with your skills, interests, and available time. This will ensure that you enjoy the journey and stay committed to your side hustle in the long run.

Retirement plans will no longer be an option

While the retirement age has become a controversial issue, it is now being said that we will no longer have the option of a retirement plan in the years to come. That means while you’re working that 9-5 every day, there will be no guaranteed pension for you when the time comes for you to retire.

According to Investopedia.com, social security is unlikely in the future to provide enough income for a comfortable retirement. If Social Security is reworked by Congress to extend its life, younger workers and high-income earners will likely be the ones to pay for it. The earlier you begin saving for retirement, the better.

Encouragement to start your side hustle

In conclusion, having a side hustle can bring numerous benefits to your life. From the financial security it provides to the opportunities for personal growth and skill development, a side hustle can be a game-changer. It allows you to explore your passions, expand your network, and achieve a better work-life balance. So, whether you’re looking to boost your income, pursue a creative outlet, or gain entrepreneurial experience, starting a side hustle may be just what you need.

Don’t let fear or uncertainty hold you back. Take the leap, embrace the opportunities, and start your side hustle today. With careful planning, dedication, and the right resources, you can turn your side hustle into a thriving venture that enhances your life in countless ways. So, what are you waiting for? Start hustling!

  • Different Types of Soul Ties: Identifying and Breaking Them

Different Types of Soul Ties: Identifying and Breaking Them

Image by Gerd Altmann from Pixabay

    First things first, let’s identify…

    What is a soul tie?

In simple words, most would people identify a soul tie as a magnet/unity/spiritual connection between two people. According to Mindbodygreen.com, A soul tie is a connection with someone deeply embedded into your soul. A third definition is an emotional/spiritual bond that can make it hard to separate from another being.

    Advertisements

Although, the most popular soul tie that people are aware of is the physical soul tie that stems from sexual intercourse. What people don’t know is that there can be platonic ones as well. There are healthy soul ties, and then there are unhealthy soul ties. Ever wonder why you can’t step away from someone? When someone you know is toxic and you know you should end it, but can’t seem to do it? It’s most likely is a soul tie.

Remember…when God and/or the Universe doesn’t want you with someone, your souls will never be at peace together.

Different Types of soul ties & How they are formed

You have what is defined as Godly soul ties and Ungodly soul ties…

    • Godly: A connection in the spiritual realm that brings beneficial consequences. Stemming from biological, sexual/physical touch (Ex: parent & child and/or husband & wife).
    • Ungodly: A soul tie that goes against God’s plan, usually brought on by demons (Ex: Sex outside of marriage and/or toxic situations).

You don’t have to be religious to determine which of these are healthy versus unhealthy.

    Advertisements
    • Physical: As humans, we crave physical touch whether it be a sexual act or a simple hug, which can create and bond and also keep you bonded with a person.
    • Emotional: Sharing feelings, experiences, and going through ups and downs with someone can really strengthen a bond and also create a tie. This explains why it may be hard to cut ties with someone you share an emotional soul tie with.
    • Spiritual: Since we are spiritual beings, this soul tie usually forms when you have a spiritual or emotional relationship with someone, it transforms into something deeper/powerful creating that spiritual soul tie.
    • Social: This usually forms through settings of social interactions, usually with friends or coworkers.
    • Permanent soul ties: When two souls merge without the agreement of each other. Usually, they are aware of it and deal with this soul tie on a more conscious level.

Key factor: You can have soul ties with multiple people who also aren’t your soulmate.

Different types of soul ties: Healthy vs Unhealthy Soul ties

Although I want badly to say “you’ll know” when most people ask the difference between a healthy soul tie vs an unhealthy one, I’m going to list the main points to help differentiate between one another below:

You’ll know its an unHealthy soul tie when:

    • You want to leave, but can’t…
    • You’re beginning to lose yourself…
    • The energy is off…
    • You feel constant negative emotions…
    • The connection is draining…
    Advertisements

You’ll know its a healthy soul tie when:

    • You feel connected on a deeper level
    • They feel familiar/comfortable
    • They complete you/you feel like yourself around them
    • You get positive benefits vs negative from being around them
    • You crave their presence/constantly want to be around them

How can I Break a soul tie?

Although we identify the different types of soul ties, we can acknowledge that losing or trying to get rid of a connection whether you’re trying to break a soul tie or you’re trying to heal, isn’t easy. The first step would be to acknowledge the soul tie, then take proper action. Here are a few ways to break those unwanted soul ties or the ones that are no longer serving you.

    • Meditate – release this person through the art of meditation
    • Spirit work – Talk to the universe or spirit guides about this person and let them know that you want to get rid of this connection.
    • Talk to the person’s soul – Tell the person that the connection is going to end, they might not hear it but their soul will.

Of course, this stuff won’t work if you’re not willing to do the work. You can’t just wish the connection away and if you truly want to get rid of this soul tie, you must also back up anything that you ask the universe for.

Attraction is flesh, connection is soul.

  • Practical Life Hacks You Probably Didn’t Know You Needed

Practical Life Hacks You Probably Didn’t Know You Needed

Here are some practical life hacks I find helpful, to get you through everyday life just a tad bit easier. These are some of the best life hacks that I personally use and find very useful. Prepare to be amazed.

Life hack #1: Wake up early every day.

Waking up early every morning between 5-8am results in more productivity and a longer-lasting day overall. The earlier you wake up, the more refreshed you’ll feel throughout the day. Of course, you would have to go to sleep earlier to achieve this, but it is worth it.

Life hack #2: Learn how to do your own hair.

It’ll save you a ton of money learning how to do your favorite styles whenever you want. Utilize YouTube and practice on others, then when you’ve mastered it you can do it for others. Everyone’s hair is not the same and should be treated accordingly. Learn your hair type and give it the correct attention it needs. I consider this self-care and you’ll notice a huge difference.

Life hack #3: Learn a new skill.

One of my favorite practical life hacks! You’ve been in school learning your whole childhood. When you decide to learn new things on your own, you’re pretty much on top of the world outside of school. Being well-versed in certain skills opens a door to opportunities that fall in your lap. Your 9-5 will make you money, and your 9-12 will set you free. Right now, I’m learning how to code. My next venture is photography/graphic design. Both will take me to many places.

    Advertisements

Life hack #4: Follow people on social media who look like you/inspire you.

This is for those people who constantly find themselves comparing them to those they see on social media. If you follow people who look like you vs those who you think meet society’s standards, YOUR qualities will be the set beauty standards. Follow those who are where you want to be also, hopefully pushing you to be where they are.

Life hack #5: Look at coworkers as coworkers only, and not friends.

When you start a job with brand new coworkers, be careful with sharing too much information. Be careful who you follow on social media as well. Not everyone in the professional setting is your friend because once you’re no longer valuable, you’re easily replaceable.

Life hack #6: Have a reward for every goal you set.

When you set a goal for yourself and plan a reward once you’ve achieved that goal–studies say, you’re 5x more motivated to work harder and achieve said goal.

Life hack #7: Never make an important decision when you’re sad/angry.

Making decisions strictly out of emotion is a dangerous game. It won’t be based on logic or reasoning, but on how you temporarily feel in the moment. Wait until you’re cooled down or you’ve thought everything through. Then you’ll be able to use your head and not your heart to make the best decision.

Life hack #8: Never keep anything important in your car.

Lately, car robberies are becoming a trend and it’s safe to say your car isn’t the place to keep important things. Other than the things that need to be kept in my glovebox, I don’t keep anything valuable in my car. Even when I’m stopping at the store. Believe me, they’ll tag you anywhere.

Life hack #9: If you can’t remember someone’s name, ask them how to spell it first.

This will avoid the awkward “I’m sorry, what is your name again?” question, that some people may find offensive. Most people just aren’t good with names, but not everyone quite understands that.

    Advertisements

Life hack # 10: Practice “Out of sight, out of mind”.

Want to get over someone quickly, or easily? Cut off communication completely. Unfollow them on social media, delete your text thread/their number, and delete any photos you all have together. This helps me a ton, because the less I see them, the less I think of them. Next thing I know, I’ve probably forgotten about them. This will help you move on and reflect on the situation without them being in the way to distract you. When you guys do end up talking again, you will most likely be in a better place.

Life hack #11: Stop holding people to certain expectations.

This life hack is nothing but a constant disappointment. What is, you ask? Holding people to certain standards that they never proved to you they could hold in the first place. I learned the hard way to stop doing this because not everyone is capable of meeting your expectations. Get a chance to see what they’re about first, then decide from there.

    Advertisements

Life hack #12: If someone has wronged you and left you hurt, write your feelings out in a letter to them and burn it.

This is a method someone shared with me that has contributed to my healing process tremendously. A lot of built-up emotions can be let go by doing this ritual. Release your thoughts, let them travel through your arm, through the pen, and onto your paper. Read it aloud and burn those thoughts. You will feel 10x better.

  • 20 Bad Habits To Stop Doing Now To Improve Your Life

20 Bad Habits To Stop Doing Now To Improve Your Life

Everyone, including myself, tends to carry some type of bad habit with them. Something we do often that we know we shouldn’t be doing. Sometimes we might not even recognize our bad habits in the first place. Some of these bad habits are small and can be easily broken. While some, you may have some difficulty trying to let go. No one is perfect or alone in this, but the key to a better life is to stop anything unhealthy in the process.

Image by Angela Yuriko Smith from Pixabay

I think it’s safe to say that everyone has picked up a bad habit or two due to the COVID-19 lockdown. According to ValuePenguin, 61% of Americans are currently trying to break unhealthy pandemic habits. Which we can all agree was a stressful time for everyone. While everyone copes differently, some may pick up habits that are hard to get rid of. Below is a list of 20 bad habits to stop doing in 2022:

    1. Sleeping in late

Sleeping in is on the top of this of bad habits to stop doing because it can result in extreme laziness. Besides, waking up early and on time results in a more productive and longer-lasting day. You even have time to fit breakfast in, which is the most important meal of the day.

    Advertisements

    2. Complaining

No one wants to be around someone who complains and nags all day. Complaining is a very negative thing to do because it focuses on what you don’t have, instead of celebrating what you do have. Complaining doesn’t offer a solution. If anything, it makes the situation more difficult to handle.

    3. Saying ‘yes’ to everything

A lot of people won’t see this as a problem, but over-extending yourself can be very draining. While it is nice for your presence to be desired everywhere, it is impossible to be everywhere at once and not disappoint people. Most people understand this, which is why you should only yes if you want to, not out of guilt.

    4. Too much screen time

Everyone knows this isn’t a necessarily healthy habit unless you’re being productive. According to research, excessive screentime strains your eyes, causes obesity, depression, anxiety, and chronic neck and back pain.

    5. Lying

Everyone has done this on occasion but if it’s a habit of yours then you might have a problem. It says a lot about your character. Friedrich Nietzsche once said, “I’m not upset that you lied to me, I’m upset that from now on I can’t believe you.” That line alone tells you why lying is bad.

    6. Watching too much TV

Spending too much free time watching television can take away productivity for more necessary things. Now, I’m not saying no TV at all, but limit the amount you watch, or you’ll never get anything done. No one likes a couch potato.

    7. Settling because you’re lonely

Going back to anything or anyone that’s bad for you because you feel lonely is the definition of low self-esteem. In a previous post I wrote about living alone at 22-23 years old and one thing I touched on was loneliness being good for the soul. Once you have mastered the art of being alone, you won’t settle for just anyone or anything.

    8. Spending money you don’t have

Spending money just because you have it is not setting you up for any type of financial success. If you plan out where your paycheck is going before you get it (other than bills) is like robbing yourself. Next thing you know, your money is gone because you got too excited for payday. Hold off on things you don’t need until you don’t have to anymore.

    Advertisements

    9. People pleasing

Wondering whether or not people like you or approve of you or anything you do is also a form of low-self esteem. You’ll never be happy constantly seeking the approval of others. It causes anxiety and it makes you look bad. It’s easier said than done but the best thing to do is not care what anyone thinks. The only approval you should seek is your own. That is a huge key to a happy life.

    10. Smoking/Vaping/Doing drugs

Everyone knows that cigarettes are cancer sticks but any type of smoke going into your lungs is ultimately never good for them. Vaping is becoming more and more popular but it has the same exact effects as cigarettes, we just can’t smell them. Doing drugs has its psychological and physical effects, depending on the drug of course. Either way, doing any of these things is like asking for a shorter life sentence.

    11. Watching too much pornography

Now don’t get this one confused. We’re not talking about masturbating or having sex, we’re specifically talking about pornography. Many people start off watching porn at a very young age which can make it difficult to stop. Usually, when people get the urge to watch porn they have to act on it immediately. Most people even depend on it. Aside from all of the other things porn does, if you watch too much of it, it can lead to a very disappointing sex life.

    12. Not eating healthy

Things like diabetes, high blood pressure, tooth decay, etc. all come from what you’re eating. A lot of people blame these things on genetics when in reality, is just an excuse to treat your body poorly. Your body is a temple so you should be very careful with what you put into it.

    13. Biting your nails/fiddling with your hair

Biting your nail and fiddling with your hair are both habits formed due to an emotional disturbance. Your hands are filthy, especially the fingers. Therefore, biting your fingernails is like eating whatever germs are under your nails. Fiddling with your hair too much could easily lead to the loss of it right before your eyes.

    14. Doubting yourself

The only person stopping you from being who you want to be is you. Doubt is very normal which makes it very hard to break. The point is to not let your insecurities be detrimental to your progress. Stopping yourself from getting somewhere before you even try is toxic to your own growth.

    15. Living in the past

Living in the past is harmful because there is nothing you can do to change it. You are holding on to something that is already gone, which stops you from moving forward and living in the present. Don’t corrupt your memories by living in them forever. Let’s make new ones instead.

    16. Not drinking enough water

Since our bodies are made up of about 70% water, it is important that we maintain those levels for a healthy body and brain functioning. Not drinking enough water can lead to many health problems such as low energy levels, moodiness, headaches, and many more. Therefore, it is suggested that we drink at least eight, 8oz glasses a day.

    17. Procrastinating

Procrastination is a result of wasted time. Waiting until the very last minute to do something can leave you feeling very heavy or stressed when the time comes to finally do it. You’re probably not giving your best results because you’re cramming everything at once. Most people procrastinate out of fear, feeling overwhelmed, or even self-doubt. Once you are able to identify and break down the task in a way that works best for you, then you’ll be more productive.

    18. Using profanity

If certain words are not allowed to be said around certain people or at a certain place, then they probably shouldn’t be said. To some people, using profanity can be offensive and to others and lacks common courtesy.

    19. Over-working yourself

When the workday is over, it means you need to stop working (unless you are getting paid to do so). According to Business News Daily, instead of improving efficiency, after-hours emails hurt job performance. Working too much can also lead to stress and fatigue. Setting boundaries lessens the amount of stress on you and improves performance in the workplace.

    20. Gambling

Gambling is considered harmless fun to some but too much of can also be considered an addiction. It’s a void, like drinking, smoking, eating unhealthy that most people run to. It can get worse if you let it get the best of you. With gambling, moderation is key.

  • How Writing Out My Bills Helped Me Earn More Money

How Writing Out My Bills Helped Me Earn More Money

Image by 3D Animation Production Company from Pixabay

Let me tell you how writing out my bills and expenses helped me out. I was sitting at work one day, constantly thinking about where I was financially and how I got there. I was living paycheck to paycheck at the time and I could not figure out where my money was going. I’m never the type to sit in my own pity, so I decided to take measures. Let me tell you how writing out my bills and expenses helped me out.

    For Motivational Purposes…

To figure out where my money was going, I sat down and wrote everything out.

Now, there are two types of people in this world; those that are broke and stay broke until they someday hit the lottery, and those who will do something about it. I’m a firm believer that YOU are in control of your life, so if you aren’t satisfied then you must make the change so you are. All I had to do was figure out the best way to implement my change.

I was cleaning my apartment one day, listening to an audiobook called Secrets of the Millionaire Mind by T. Harv Eker. One of the most amazing audiobooks I’ve ever listened to; It is truly a must-read. It’s a blueprint on how wealthy people think and contributed a fortune to me putting my goals and aspirations into fruition. Here are a few things that stuck with me the most:

    Advertisements
    • Manifestation is real, so everything begins with your thoughts.
    • Rich people believe “I create my life”, poor people believe “life happens to me”.
    • Get in the game. If you want it, start it.
    • Energy is contagious: either you affect people or infect people.
    • There’s nothing wrong with getting a steady paycheck, unless it interferes with your ability to earn what you’re worth. Which It usually does.

I won’t share too many key points because I want you all to read/listen to it as well.

After finishing it, I started my blog and was no longer at a job that was not paying me enough. But of course, this was after I wrote out my monthly bills and expenses. It wasn’t until I added everything up that I realized I had more bills than what I was making. So, instead of eliminating bills to make ends meet, I decided the only solution was that I needed more money. I wasn’t happy at my job and they weren’t paying me enough, so why was I still there?

Below is an example of what I wrote out half a year ago. I was making $28,000 but with taxes and benefits, this is what my income came out to:

Me writing out my bills and budget

Quickly after starting my blog, I knew what type of work I wanted to do. So, I fixed my resume a little, made some adjustments to my LinkedIn, and made sure my website was nice enough for a recruiter to glance at.

    Advertisements

In my free time, I spent my entire day either working on my blog or applying to an enormous amount of jobs in the field I wanted to work in. I was starting to see some progress but I am so confident in myself that I wasn’t going to accept the first offer just because they were first. Along with the pay, I had to make sure it was a healthy work environment with good hours…I refused to be miserable. I knew my worth and I wasn’t going to sink (I now have a job that I really enjoy and pays me more, remember, never settle).

Referring back to the line, rich people believe “I create my life”, poor people believe “life happens to me”–I knew it was up to me to be exactly where I wanted to be and if I had the “the world is against me” mentality then I wasn’t going to get far. I spoke it, put action towards it, and it happened. There are circumstances where people feel they lack the proper resources to get where they need to be but there is a way around everything.

Wealth File #13: Rich people focus on their net worth. Poor people focus on their working income.

I don’t mind working because working income is important, but having financial value is the true measure of wealth. Along with wanting to make more money, I want to invest long-term. I also know that I need the working income to invest and once I have savings and investments I’ve reached my true pinnacle. On the way to me reaching my pinnacle, I needed more money than just what was paying my bills.

If you’re living paycheck to paycheck, and you are leaving it up to the Lord to get you out of it; he can only do so much without any action on your part. What’s stopping you from applying for that better-paying job or starting that business venture?

  • 10 Questions For A Personal Growth Challenge

10 Questions For A Personal Growth Challenge

Here is a list of ten questions I asked myself that you can also ask yourself if you feel you may need to heal or for your own personal development and growth. Write down your answers to each question and really reflect on how to move forward in your own way.

    1. Why am I allowing myself to be treated this way?

The way you allow others to treat you has everything to do with your self-esteem, self-love, and self-respect; which is something I struggled with for a while. Without those three components, it can be hard to see yourself as somewhat valuable. If you don’t see yourself that way, then no one else will.

    2. What are my flaws?

Being able to identify and analyze your flaws is an easy step to becoming the best version of yourself. It’s a plus when you can also identify the root of each flaw so that it makes it easier to get rid of. A flaw of mine is I tend to shut down and disappear because I want to avoid conflict. I also detach easily, to avoid getting hurt.

    3. How do you see yourself?

I said this before and I’m going to keep saying it. How you view yourself sets the tone for how others view you. When you see your worth, you’ll stop seeing people who don’t.

    4. What habits are hindering your growth?

These habits include things that are slowing you down and can easily be avoided with discipline. For me, I stopped smoking, stopped carelessly drinking, limited my tv consumption, and giving so much of my time to certain people. Although there are many more, dropping these alone gave me so much progress.

    5. Are you living for others or for yourself?

When I began making my own decisions that I thought were the best for me, is when I became happier. I stopped listening to my parents or anyone else who had an opinion on what they thought I should’ve been doing. Yes, some people have experience and wisdom but they don’t have the path to your life in their back pocket.

    6. Who are letting have access to you that shouldn’t?

Cleansing your environment of toxic things and people is detrimental to personal growth. Individuals who aren’t on the same wavelength as you won’t contribute to you in any way. In fact, their ways might rub off on you. You should always spend more time with people who bring out the best in you. How can you grow with someone who has an unwillingness to elevate?

    7. Are you accepting the bare minimum?

It wasn’t until recently that I realized that the red flags you ignore in the beginning are always the reason things end. When someone shows you who they are the first time, it’s literally who they are it’s not a façade. If you accept the bare minimum in the beginning, you will always get the bare minimum. Set a standard and stick to it, this is a part of knowing your worth. When you choose to settle for less than you know you deserve, then maybe less is what you truly deserve.

    8. How far are you willing to let things get worse?

How did we let it get this far? At some point you have to really sit down and tell yourself, I don’t want this for myself any longer. When it came to a certain situation, I let things get so bad I didn’t know who I was anymore. And from that point on, things didn’t go any farther.

    9. Does everyone deserve a second chance?

This question is to your own discretion. Personally, I don’t see any harm in second chances depending on the situation of course. A third and fourth chance is just giving people the opportunity to play with you. I had to learn the hard way that nothing good comes out of chances that come in 3s or more. Giving people the benefit of the doubt is nice but stupid.

    10. How do you spend most of your free time?

When I sat back and realized that most of my free time was spent doing the bad habits I talked about in question #4, I realized that I was never going to get where I needed to be. So I cut them out one by one and I don’t even feel like the same person most of the time. Someone once told me, that your future depends on your everyday habits.

  • Is Pursuing A College Degree Worth It In 2022?

Is Pursuing A College Degree Worth It In 2022?

College is a decision many decide to pursue, but not everyone finishes. In my opinion, the end result is not only about what you’ve learned but about the credentials. More recently, there’s been a growing conversation going around that pursuing a college degree might not be worth all the financial hardship it puts you through. Especially in today’s times since we never know what will end up happening next. Here are my pros and cons of pursuing a four-year undergraduate (and a little graduate) degree.

DISCLAIMER: I do have a bachelor’s degree from a four-year university and attended a master’s program for a year so this is all based on experience. I’ll start with the cons so we can end on a positive note.

    Cons

Might be hard to find a good job post-graduation.

After the four-year-long journey, you are not guaranteed a job because you have the degree. While some might find this debatable, what you did during your time in undergrad and how well put together your resume/CV matters a bunch. Just because you have the degree does not mean you get the job however, it is a plus. For most jobs, experience matters more than credentials, so an internship would help, or any type of skills that you acquired relatable to the job would help as well. You put in the work to get the degree, now you have to put in the work to get the job.

College is too expensive and will probably leave you in debt for life.

Pursuing a college degree can be very expensive, leaving most students having to take out student loans in order to pay for it. Your matriculation will be paid for but most students end up stressed six months after. When the student loan payments start. Not being able to take care of your student loan amongst all your other bills, can potentially put you in the hole for a long time–maybe even life. Everyone wants you to go to school, but no one wants to help pay for it.

People are steering away from school more and more because the world is full of poor graduates and rich criminals. Why should we have to pay so much for education anyway? I wanted to stop living life so linearly. Until recently, I was never not in school. From elementary, middle, high, college, to grad school, I never took a break to see what the world had to offer. Ever since I decided to explore those opportunities, it’s only worked out for the better.

Some students come out with tons of knowledge but lack the skills they need to properly advance.

This can depend on what school you go to and the specific department you’re in. Schools may lack proper resources to prepare us for the future, leaving us to have to fend for ourselves in the end. When you do graduate with your degree, nowadays most entry-level jobs require some level of experience and/or an advanced degree that everyone can’t afford. Remember, everybody wants you to pursue a college degree, but no one wants to help you pay for it.

Which is another reason why you should do whatever you feel is best for YOUR life and not anyone else’s. If you can’t afford it and can’t get a loan, you’ll be constantly trying to find ways to pay for it which could have a big impact on your entire experience. You’ll end up stressed, and more worried about how you’re going to pay for each semester. Working while in school means no free time. You’re trying to manage everything at once might even affect your performance because you aren’t able to give your coursework your undivided attention. Again, this is not always the case, just something to consider.

I made the decision to pause grad school because I couldn’t afford it. I took out student loans for the time that I did attend and decided I did not want to be in any more debt, so I didn’t take out anymore. Student loans were one of my worst nightmares and unfortunately, while I have to pay them back, I’ll probably just go back when and only when I can afford it. I decided that that is the smartest financial decision for me, so I’m sticking with it. After all, school isn’t going anywhere.

    Pros

You get to move to another place outside of home.

Going away for college was one of the best decisions I made, it turned out to be an experience of a lifetime. Living out of state opened my eyes to a world I never knew. I met (and still know) people from all over–different personalities, cultures, and backgrounds. I now see the world beyond what I’ve always known. While going away to another state forced me to be on my own, it taught me independence. Your parents won’t always be there so it was a good start to being able to make my own decisions.

    You meet lifelong friends.

Pursuing a college degree isn’t just about the education, but also about the relationships you make. These people end up being our children’s godparents and become a part of the family. You’ll be forced to share a room with them and spend the past four years developing a bond, they probably know you more than anybody from your past. They know the current you, not the person you were before you got there. You go through hardships together, from being out there on your own to tackling school full time and facing life all at once.

They see the ups, the downs, the real you. When school is over and everyone goes their separate ways but you want to bring them along and continue that bond that was cultivated for four years. These people not only watch you evolve over the years but they become a part of the growth process. They are also going through the same many transitions like graduating into real-life post-college.

    It teaches you to evolve.

The person I was before college, during college, and the person I am post-college are totally different people. Of course, college expanded my knowledge, but it also taught me a tumultuous amount of life lessons. Reading is fundamental in ways I did not understand at first. When you leave college, it is up to you to continue educating yourself because education is one of the most powerful tools you can possess.

I learned that there’s life beyond your hometown and the people you grew up with. Every city, state, and country has its own culture and way of life. People come from certain backgrounds that instill behaviors, thoughts, and beliefs that leave you with an open mind. I’ve opened my mind and heart to different ways of life after questioning them of course. I don’t do things I used to do or even consume the same food/drinks I used to.

Unless you are trying to become a doctor or lawyer, there’s always a way to get your dream job if you’re willing to put the work in.

Although it is up to you to take the proper steps to get where you want to be in life, having a degree might just put you ahead of someone who doesn’t. That’s only in some circumstances because today a bachelor’s degree is equivalent to a high school diploma. Like I’ve mentioned in my blog post, Tips for the Job Search, experience is more valuable.

Pursuing a college degree (two) showed me a level of professionalism that I wasn’t taught in high school. Both undergrad and graduate school taught me to project, listen, defend myself, and how to exist in a world based on capitalism and everyday survival tactics. And of course, how to dress appropriately for the occasion. I understand my space as a black woman in America and that I have no limitations on where I can go. These are things I will forever take with me in life and beyond.
